A bite of Thousand Oaks history
Thousand Oaks was almost a park. In 1908 Berkeley voted on buying this oak-covered, boulder-strewn land for open space, and the measure lost by only 194 votes. A year later John Hopkins Spring divided it into home lots instead, promising to touch nature's masterpiece with a reverent hand, and Berkeley annexed the neighborhood in 1920.
The boulders explain the place. Indian Rock and Mortar Rock are rhyolite roughly 9 to 11 million years old, and the grinding holes Ohlone families wore into them are still visible. Both rocks became parkland in 1917.
Below the hills, Solano Avenue grew from a ranch road into a streetcar hub at the Colusa Wye, fed by the Northbrae Tunnel. Our office at 906 Ensenada Avenue sits on a quiet residential street inside that old tract, two blocks from Thousand Oaks Elementary and a short drive from Albany and Kensington.

For a dental emergency in office hours, call us first at 510-528-1546 and we will tell you what to do. If a tooth has been knocked out, or there is swelling and it is after hours, hospital emergency care is close: Alta Bates in Berkeley and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in Oakland both see children.
