A bite of Lamorinda history
Altarinda Road is a school street before it is anything else. The Orinda Union School District keeps its office at 8 Altarinda Road, a few doors from ours at number 3, inside the John Muir Health building.
The town's name reaches further back. Orinda comes from Katherine Fowler Philips, a 17th century poet her admirers called the Matchless Orinda. Four Mexican ranchos, then a railroad summer town, then a suburb shaped by the Caldecott Tunnel in 1937 and rebuilt since, in 1964 and again in 2013.
The Orinda Theatre opened in 1941. It still anchors Theatre Square, down Orinda Way from the Orinda Library at 26 Orinda Way and Orinda Community Park at 28 Orinda Way. We serve families across Lamorinda, from Orinda, Lafayette, and Moraga, who cross that tunnel in both directions to reach us.

For a dental emergency in office hours, call us first at 925-253-8190 and we will tell you what to do. If a tooth has been knocked out, or there is swelling and it is after hours, hospital emergency care is close: John Muir Health in Walnut Creek and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in Oakland both see children.
