Our preventive care program focuses on maintaining your child's oral health through regular check-ups, cleanings, and education. We use fluoride treatments and dental sealants to protect young teeth, setting the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles.
When cavities or damage occur, our restorative treatments restore function and appearance. Using tooth-colored materials and our Solea laser, we provide fillings and crowns with minimal discomfort, helping your child maintain a healthy, natural-looking smile.
Our Solea laser allows for minimally invasive procedures, often without the need for anesthesia. This advanced technology reduces anxiety, minimizes pain, and speeds up healing time for a variety of treatments.
For children who experience dental anxiety or require extensive treatment, we offer safe sedation options. Our team is trained to administer and monitor nitrous oxide (laughing gas), ensuring your child remains comfortable throughout their visit.
We are committed to providing compassionate care for children with special needs. Our team has extensive experience and training in creating positive dental experiences for children with various physical, behavioral, and developmental challenges.
Dental emergencies can happen at any time. Our Berkeley office provides prompt emergency care during business hours, and our on-call system ensures you can reach a provider even after hours for urgent dental issues.

Telegraph Avenue took its name from a telegraph line strung between Oakland and Sacramento, and the street has been Berkeley's front hall ever since. In 1964 a student sat in a police car on Telegraph for 32 hours while classmates surrounded it, and the Free Speech Movement began.
Five years later, neighbors turned a cleared lot on Dwight Way into People's Park. A mile south, the Lorin District still carries its first life as a railroad town that voted to join Berkeley in 1892. Dentistry has a root here, too.
Berkeley's first Black dentist, William R. Pittman, opened his practice in 1931 at 2930 Grove Street, now Martin Luther King Jr. Way, and cared for patients for more than 44 years. The South Branch library at 1901 Russell Street now carries the name of his wife, civil rights leader Tarea Hall Pittman. Our office at 2640 Telegraph Avenue sits in the middle of that history, a few blocks from Dwight Way, serving families from Southside, Elmwood, and the Lorin District.

Plan for a slower trip. On home game days, parking rules across Southside tighten from 8 in the morning to 11 at night, fines rise to $335, and cars can be towed. Meters cost half again as much. If your visit lands on a game day, leave early and ask us where to park when you book.
The Telegraph Channing Garage at 2450 Durant Avenue is the reliable choice, with 420 spaces. Know its quirks before you count on it. Parking past four hours jumps to $20, the special event rate is $60, and the clearance is only 6 feet 6 inches, so tall vehicles should stay out. The streets around the office are mostly two hour residential permit parking.
Not right now. People's Park closed in January 2024 and is an active housing construction site, expected to stay one until about 2027 or 2028. Willard Park at 2730 Hillegass Avenue is the better stop. It has a fenced tot lot and room to burn off energy before a visit, and it is a short walk from our office.
California asks for an oral health assessment in a child's first year of public school, in transitional kindergarten or kindergarten, and the completed form is due by May 31. The check can happen up to 12 months before your child starts. Bring the form to a regular visit and we will complete it there, so there is no separate trip to arrange in May.
If this will be your child's first time with us, here is what to expect at a first visit.
This office serves Berkeley Unified School District families.
For a dental emergency in office hours, call us first at 510-848-6494 and we will tell you what to do. If a tooth has been knocked out, or there is swelling and it is after hours, hospital emergency care is close: Alta Bates in Berkeley and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in Oakland both see children.

Have questions? We have answers!
We recommend scheduling your child's first dental visit by their first birthday, in line with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry's guidelines. Early visits help establish good oral health habits and prevent potential issues.
Yes, we use fluoride treatments as recommended by the AAPD. We apply a smear of fluoridated toothpaste for children who can't spit yet, and a pea-sized amount for those who can. This helps prevent cavities and strengthens teeth against decay.
We typically recommend check-ups every six months. However, some children may need more frequent visits depending on their individual oral health needs. We'll work with you to determine the best schedule for your child.
In case of a dental emergency, such as a knocked-out tooth or severe toothache, contact our office immediately. We prioritize urgent cases and will provide guidance on the next steps. Quick action can often save a tooth and alleviate pain.
